Family Development Homes saw the successful conclusion of its "Home with a Heart" charity event in Indio, with the presentation of $400,000 to the Barbara Sinatra Children's Center and the Family YMCA of the Desert. Each of the family-oriented, desert charities received a $200,000 check at the closing ceremony of the four-day whirlwind construction event.
The kick-off for the event began on Friday, May 20, at 6:00 a.m. with the raising of the home's first wall. Originally, "Home with a Heart" was planned to be built in four days from Friday to Monday, May 23, but the home was completed in just 50 hours by a determined team of construction volunteers who worked non-stop in the 110 degree heat.
During construction, the visitor turnout was remarkable as the public watched from the stands as numerous subcontractors and local businesses from the Coachella Valley gladly contributed their time and resources to help out with construction, food, and entertainment. |
